Hummer (4x4) limousines

Hire a Hummer Limo from Limohire.co.uk Hummers are Huge, mean looking, awkward, amazing, fantastic, Too little head room, the best, the contrast in describing these 4x4 built limousines is just as diverse as the vehicle itself, put in simple terms, you either love this type of stretch limousine or you hate them. Stretch Hummer, Excursion, Expedition, Suburban and the UK Range Rover and BMW limousines were born from necessity. As the demand for stretch limousines has grown over the last 20 years, so has the consumers demand to be able to carry more and more passengers in one limousine.

The first of these huge up to 200 stretch limousines came onto the market in the late 1990’s. The very first to hit the busy prom season in the USA was a stretch Ford Excursion. This was an easy choice for the limousine manufacturers as Ford already had the esteemed QVM program in place. Built on a 140 stretch platform, the Ford Excursion, also the biggest 4x4 ever built, lent itself to becoming a stretch limousine very easily. The first limousine builders to convert these vehicles into stretch limos was Missouri based Executive Coachbuilders also known as ECB. Under the watchful eye of limousine master builder Doug Donalson, the first Executive Coach stretch Excursion rolled off the platform and was sold to New York limousine hire company City state limos. The limousine was an instant success and orders to build from other limousine operators through out USA came flooding in. Since 1998, ECB has been awarded by Ford Motor company on 6 separate occasions for being the biggest (most supplied to) builders of stretch Excursion limousines.

As the demand for these fantastic limousines grew, the limousine builders started to look for ever more different 4x4 car platforms to convert to stretch limousines. The huge, ‘built for the USA army’ Hummers were the natural choice and it was not long before all the major limousine builders in USA started to roll out these monster limousines. Krystal, Tiffany, Royale, Westwind and Coastal all made their own mark on these chassis and it was not long before these huge new limousines entered onto our own UK market.

The Hummer type Limousines have been a huge success since they arrived into the UK, in early 2000, 01. But two stumbling blocks may have put the brakes on this particular popular stretch limousine. In mid 2009, during the worst recession since world war 2, General Motors who owned Hummer sold the Hummer brand and technology to China based Quat Tar engineering, so as of July 2009 they would not be producing any more Hummer vehicles. The Chinese company that has bought the Hummer brand has not yet said in which direction it is going to take the future of the vehicle. Even more impact was to be created by the new VOSA regulations being applied to all stretch limousines. This law came under the Local Transport Act October 2008, subsequent enforcement powers October 2009. The UK limousine users romance with this type of limousine is soon to become a thing of the past. Under these regulations stretch Hummer limousines must conform to UK Construction and Use regulations and as such must have a COIF certification. This can be made possible using a COIF retro fit by engineering company Pinnacle in Manchester, but at a cost of £18,000.00. The price may be a little too high for the  Limousine operators.
