The Lincoln Town car has been used as the staple diet for the limousine manufacturers since the early 1970’s. A great rear wheel drive vehicle that lends itself well to becoming a stretch limousine. Over 90% of all 8 passenger carrying limousines are Lincoln Town Cars. 

The Lincoln Town car is built by Ford Motor Company. Ford in collaboration with the biggest limousine builders such as Executive Coach, Krystal and Royale, have created an approved build programme for stretch limousines called QVM. (Quality Modified Vehicle) Any coachbuilder (limousine manufacturer) who conforms to the strict stretch limousine conversion regime and uses only Ford approved modification parts will receive the QVM standard. The QVM standard is so good, it is now recognised the world over as the approval to look for when purchasing a stretch Lincoln Town Car. 

The Town Car has gone through several changes to its appearance, the biggest change coming in 1998 when the new Millennium Town car was unveiled. Far more rounded than the traditional ‘box’ shape of its predecessor, the new Millennium Town Car was an instant hit, especially with the Limousine builders and limousine hiring public. This design was further enhanced in 2003 when the new look Town car was launched. This time the appearance change was not so radical, but more emphasis was put into the interior, where more luxury was added for the driver. 

In the USA, the stretch Lincoln Town Cars are and will remain the face of the standard stretch limousine, but in the UK market it is very different. The UK market has seen a dramatic shift away from the traditional Lincoln Town Car limousine to the aesthetically better looking ‘Baby Bentley’ Chrysler 300 stretch Limousines. The sleek lines and huge front grill make this all new limousine a firm favourite with the limousine hiring public. 

The stretch Town Car Limousines are still a popular choice with the limousine operators, but with a fuel guzzling 4.6 litre engine, a galleon of fuel just getting a mere 14 miles and a weight of just under 3 Tonnes, and newer cheaper to run Chrysler 300 limousines coming onto the market, perhaps the days for this stalwart of the limousine industry are sadly numbered.
