Hummer Sold to Chinese
GM Motors this morning confirmed that they had sold their Hummer car production division to a company from China, the new owners are Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery.
With Hummer limousine operators already struggling with the current economic climate, this news could not come at a worse time.
The operators who own these huge Hummer Limousines will now be dependent on the Chinese to provide the parts, accessories etc, this happened a few years ago with MG. Some MG car owners had their cars sat on their driveway for up to three months! just waiting on the parts being shipped over from China, and when they did arrive the parts sometimes did not fit correctly and needed modification. This situation unfortunately could also happen to the Hummer limousine operators.
Most Operators have purchased their Hummers limousines through finance companies, they cannot afford to be waiting on parts be delivered from China. What if the new owners decide not to continue with the production of Hummers and use the technology they have acquired to produce their own similar version?
Can the limousine industry cope with this? I would love to hear your views.
