£1,000 FINE FOR SLOUGH DRIVER WHO REFUSED ASSISTANCE DOG
SLOUGH Borough Council has prosecuted a private hire driver for refusing to convey a lady and her assistance dog. Mr.Jamail Singh was dispatched to a job by his operator which was booked on behalf of a disabled lady. On his arrival at the location with the Chrysler 300c stretch limousine Mr. Singh refused to take the lady in question as she was accompanied by a registered assistance dog. In his words, he said that he ‘does not take dogs in his car’.
Mr. Singh was prosecuted under Section 37A of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995, at East Berkshire Magistrates Court. Mr. Singh failed to attend the proceedings and was found guilty in his absence of ‘falling or refusing to carry out a booking made by, or on behalf of a disabled person, for the reason that the disabled person would be accompanied by an assistance dog’. He was then fined the maximum penalty for a level three offence of £1,000 and also ordered to pay the additional cost of £1,175 in costs.
12 MONTHS FOR FAR ATTACK ON HEREFORD DRIVER
A 20 year old South Wye man who joined in a racially aggraved attack on a limousine driver has been sent to detention for 12 months. The trainee bricklayer and three of his friends ordered the 16 seater party bus to have a good night out and have a heavy drinking session. They subjected Shahid Ali to the ‘usual chatter’ about Pakistani men and taking all the jobs in England before he stopped to let the customers out.
But the three men then attacked Mr.Ali, punching him to the head and neck. He was taken to hospital with a deformed nose and a head wound, Worcester Crown Court heard. Pritchard of Red hill Hereford, was found guilty of racially aggravated assault after a trial before magistrates. The party bus also had £500 worth of damage done to it. Judge Andrew Geddes said it was ‘repulsive behavior totally unacceptable in a civilized society’. He added ‘limousine drivers provide a valuable service to the community but expose themselves to risk of assault due to people drinking way to much. The courts have a duty to protect them’. The judge ordered Pritchard to pay Mr.Ali £400 compensation, but police were quickly on the scene and arrested Pritchard. He called a women police officer ‘a dirty tramp’ and said Mr.Ali should go back to where he came from.
SUSPENSION FOR RACIST SHEFFIELD POLICEMAN
An off-duty officer has been suspended from duties after a limousine driver claimed he hurled racial abuse at him when he refused to take him home. According to PC Paul Dawson who strongly denies the allegation, has been reported to his bosses by 29 year old limo driver Abdul Rafiq. Mr.Rafiq claims an argument started outside a club when he told the drunken officer that if he has to be sick, he must tell the driver with notice so that he can pull over, or the officer would have to pay an extra £125 on top of his hire.
An investigation is now looking into claims of racist insults was used during the exchange. Later, the limousine driver found a mobile phone that had been left in the Chrysler limousine which he identified as belonging to PC Dawson after finding a picture of his uniform stored on the handset.
The constable has been questioned by the force and denies the allegations of racism. PC Dawson’s Police Federation representive Neil Vaughan said ‘Paul has met with South Yorkshire Polices professional standards department and has vehemently denied all allegations made by Mr.Rafiq’. Mr.Rafiq said ‘The police have taken this seriously, the professional standards department has treated me really well’.
RIPPONDEN LIMOUSINE DRIVER ATTACKERS GOT ON-THE-SPOT FINES
A limousine driver claims he was attacked by drunken yobs in front of police, only to see them escape with an on-the-spot fine the next day. The party bus driver picked up the group of young men, described as in their 20’s. Mr.Kam told the Halifax courier: ‘they asked me to stop and I saw one of them had been sick all over the back of the party bus. They got out and tried to walk away, when I told then they had to pay an extra fine for the man who was sick I got punched hard in the face. Then they ran up behind and started hitting me on the back of the head. Im very lucky police broke it up’.
Mr.Kam added ‘I was hit so hard; when I got home I was seeing stars. Police saw them attack me and these men still get away with nothing. Its disgusting, there’s enough violence towards use as it is and this will just encourage more attacks’. Mr.Kam was checked out at Bradford Royal Infirmary and says he is still afraid of going back to work. West Yorkshire Police spokeswomen said ‘at around 2am two men were arrested for public order offences. The two males were detained and on release were given fixed penalty notices of £80’.

He passed a 20-week prison sentence suspended for 12 months with 80 hours unpaid work and ordered Dalzell to pay £1,000 compensation to the limousine driver.
