SEVEN LIMOUSINES TAKEN DOWN AT END OF SCHOOL PROM

July 29th, 2010

A total of seven stretched limousine carrying school children to and end of school prom had failed all safety tests. The prom held in Bedfordshire is supposed to be the most enjoyable night for a teen having their last night as a high school student. However this all changed when they were deceived by limousine companies in which they had said that all their limousine are road legal and have been tested. Only one vehicle was fit to carry anyone to the high school prom. Council officials, police and the Vehicle and Operators Services agency (VOSA) had carried out the inspection on the spot checks. From this, serious problems were found when the limousines were checked for mechanical faults and documents inspected. Prohibition notices were issued to seven of the eight limousines hired for the occasion. ‘one was in such a dangerous mechanical condition, it had to be compounded overnight’ said one police spokesman. ‘its driver was issued with a £200 fixed penalty notice, in the case of a student who arrived at the school premises standing in an ice-cream can, for which his parent had paid its drive a fee, both the driver and owner are now facing potential prosecution.

DEMAND FOR LIMO’S IN ESSEX

June 23rd, 2010

Limousine firms throughout Essex have said that this year they are finding it hard to keep up with the demand from the teenagers that are willing to splash out to arrive in style for their prom nights. The bigger limousine companies are gathering up to 300 calls for every date in the prom calendar and are tired of turning away people for certain dates.

One limousine spokeswomen quoted ‘we just wish we had more cars’ ‘the bigger limousines like the party buses and hummer are more demand for the fact that the legal ones are 16 seaters, we are probably booked for the next couple of months now for the prom season’

Another limousine company owner said ‘we are virtually fully booked; our long white stretch limousines are very popular’

The season has started, and for most companies, it will not finish for at least another month or so.

Councils looking at limousines more objectively?

June 9th, 2010

Just recently, we have started giving formal presentations to council licensing officers about stretch limos – what they are, how they are built, VOSA’s requirements etc.

One such presentation was given to Spelthorne Council and invited licensing officers from other councils (12 in all) on 13th April.  The presentation was followed by a very open Q and A forum and “both sides” were very open and frank – from the good, the bad and of course, the ugly.

Today, we received the following email from the senior licensing officer of Runneymede Borough Council, who until now, have not licensed limousines:

 BEGIN QUOTE

Just a short note to let you know that Members of the Regulatory Committee agreed, last night, to relax the restriction & requirement of 3 point lap & diagonal passenger seat belts for side or rear facing seats.

he item put before the Committee was aimed at removing the one condition that inhibited the licensing of ‘stretched limos’ in Runnymede.

There seems to be no good reason why any operator based within the Borough cannot now become licensed with us and operate within the law.

Please feel free to contact us should you wish any further information.

END QUOTE

This is good news and goes to show what can be achieved if a sensitive and accurate approach is adopted and put before the authorities, who of course, have the deciding vote.

We also heard today that both Bolton and Walsall Councils have agreed to license limousines of up to eight passengers.

SAFE LIMOUSINE

May 13th, 2010

When hiring any sort of hire vehicle, people want the best looking to make heads turn, but what some people forget is that are they going to be in a legal hire vehicle? Such stretched limousines who say they can carry more then ‘8’ when they seem to have not even heard about the COIF certificate will be caught out one way or another.

Any small limousine such as a Chrysler 300c stretch, or Lincoln limousine, to be able to carry up to 8 people, the vehicle needs to be SVA approved. Meaning it has the legal regulations done to the vehicle for it to be able to carry this many people. Any bigger limousine such as party buses, Hummers, & Excursions would require having a COIF certificate which enables them to carry up to 16 people onboard at a time. If you decide to hire a vehicle, make sure you ask the ‘needed’ questions like ‘who are your chauffeurs licensed with’ ‘has your vehicle got a SVA/COIF certificate’ if they do not have this, you are sure to be thrown out of the vehicle if caught by police, and the vehicle then being crushed.

Limo Hire ensures that all the limousines companies that jump onboard our business are fully legal, which will enable everyone being safe, and having not to worry about anything but what the hangover cure is going to be in the morning.

REPOSSED LIMOUSINE ON PROM NIGHT

May 7th, 2010

When the big night comes up for any teenager, so many things could go wrong for them, ill fitting tuxes, zits, wilted flowers, even the date running off with someone else, however a group of high school kids in Oklahoma had had their evening spoiled in a way that is all too indicatives of the times which we live in. On their prom night they watched their limousine they had booked being repossessed.

The teenagers and the limousine chauffer had just stepped out of the stretch hummer limousine when someone else had suddenly hopped onboard and started to drive away. ‘Our limousine is getting carjacked!’ one of the teens said as they all watched the stretch limo speed off. According to the owner of the limousine company, the vehicle should not have been repossessed at all. He then claimed that he would have to sort his issue out with the bank, but he then quoted that the bank didn’t pass the information onto the repo man. The owner say he intends to make up for any lose within this incident with a partial refund or free future rental.

This just proves that anyone who dodges the rules, will get caught and executed. With any big day, this is the worst nightmare. This is why with Limo Hire, we make sure that every limousine company that joins our directory is safe, to the best of their ability and most of all legal. Their will be no mistakes when hiring/becoming part of the family with Limo Hire.

Learn About Limos

Learn About Limos
Tighter new rules on type approval and road worthiness mean there’s never been a better time for stretched limousine operators to look at buying a new vehicle – and we’ve got all the lasts, street-legal stretches – and more at Drive ’09.
If you’re planning to attend the VOSA seminar, held on both days at the show, you’ll know how hot the issue of compliance is with the sector. VOSA is also offering on purchasing, importing, registering and operating a stretched limousine in a safe, legal manor and is looking at the future changes that are expected to impact the limo industry, such as EC whole vehicle type approval.
There’s plenty of new hardware on show. 1st4Limo Sales gained the first UK SVA and IVA type approvals earlier in the year with the Chrysler 300C based 120in stretch Icon Illusion, and no the company is launching a sister vehicle. The Icon Demon is a 120in stretch of the Dodge Charger – mechanically similar to the 300C 1st4Limo Sales managing director Mark Farrell said: ‘this vehicle is what everyone has been waiting for. Since the Chrysler 300C hit the scene some years ago, it has almost wiped-out the Lincoln Town Car. This vehicle will do the same with it’s under £60,000 price tag, and we are both excited and very proud to be launching it at Drive ‘09’.
Farrell has been working with the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) to ensure the Icon Demon limo will be offered with an IVA. Like the Icon Illusion, the Demons are built by Executive Coach Builders of Springfield, Missouri.

As well as the American built stretches, 1st4LimoSales is also showing the UK made, fully COIFed, 16 passenger Grand Illusion Coach/Limo Party Bus. Increasingly in demand as an alternative to a stretch, the Mercedes-Benz Viano or VW Crafter based Grand Illusion has a stand up interior with facing seats. It is equipped with large flat screen TV, bar and laser lights, like a mobil disco! It comes with full three year manufacturer’s warrenty; and because it’s technically a bus, it can legally use bus passenger minibus.
