Limousine Operator gets fined and points

The ‘Full Stretch Limousine Company’ which is based in Carmarthenshire, West Wales had endured 3 months of courts appearances resulting in no more less than £10,000 in fines over an illegal tyre. The couple have said that many more operators will find themselves in a similar position with the new laws being applied from October 1st 2009.

A VOSA agent said that the tyre was illegal to proceed with and GV9’d the vehicle some 60 miles from its home base. The owner, which is also the chauffeur of the small company was offered a choice of which was if the owner had lived closer he could have drove home, as this was not possible, due to the distance involved, the owner suggested if he could go and get the tyre changed locally. This was agreed with by the VOSA agent. The owner had gone to meet a colleague who was 15 miles away from where he was, and kept in contact with the VOSA agent so that he could meet the agent after to get the GV9 lifted. The tyre was changed and the GV9 lifted, but this was not the end of it. Four days later, the limousine owner received a summons concerning driving a vehicle with a defective tyre whilst under a GV9 prohibition.

The limousine owner was fined for driving under a mechanical prohibition and was fined £750 and an additional £965.85, three penalty points and his licence, and subsequently lost his PSV driving licence.
