Councils looking at limousines more objectively?

June 9th, 2010

Just recently, we have started giving formal presentations to council licensing officers about stretch limos – what they are, how they are built, VOSA’s requirements etc.

One such presentation was given to Spelthorne Council and invited licensing officers from other councils (12 in all) on 13th April.  The presentation was followed by a very open Q and A forum and “both sides” were very open and frank – from the good, the bad and of course, the ugly.

Today, we received the following email from the senior licensing officer of Runneymede Borough Council, who until now, have not licensed limousines:

 BEGIN QUOTE

Just a short note to let you know that Members of the Regulatory Committee agreed, last night, to relax the restriction & requirement of 3 point lap & diagonal passenger seat belts for side or rear facing seats.

he item put before the Committee was aimed at removing the one condition that inhibited the licensing of ‘stretched limos’ in Runnymede.

There seems to be no good reason why any operator based within the Borough cannot now become licensed with us and operate within the law.

Please feel free to contact us should you wish any further information.

END QUOTE

This is good news and goes to show what can be achieved if a sensitive and accurate approach is adopted and put before the authorities, who of course, have the deciding vote.

We also heard today that both Bolton and Walsall Councils have agreed to license limousines of up to eight passengers.

CHAUFFEUR ACCUSED OF SEXUAL ASSAULT

May 12th, 2010

A limousine chauffeur has been taken to court for being accused of sexually assaulting a 15 year old girl on her prom night. Graham Currah has denied the so called charges of assault with the child and false imprisonment which had occurred last summer in his limousine. A jury had heard the girl explain how she had felt ‘petrified and sick’ when Graham had touched her leg, told her she was ‘gorgeous’ and tried to kiss her. Being that the chauffeur had never met the girl before hand, why would a child make up such story?

A prosecutor Paul Newcombe had told the jury, ‘All of those approaches were unwelcome and unprovoked and you will hear her evidence that he manipulated the circumstances so he could be alone with her for some time’ the court had then heard for the chauffeur was booked to take four schoolgirls to their big night and then retrieve them at the end of the night. The victim who is now still just 16 had told the court that she had drunk two glasses of champagne to celebrate her school years, she had this on the way to the prom and three on the way back, she had expected her friend who mum had booked the limousine for their big night to be dropped home last instead, the chauffeur dropped her home first.

Throughout the journey, while the teenager was the only girl still in the limousine, she had told the 27 year old driver she was feeling very drowsy and ill. The chauffeur had quoted ‘This can be caused through to much heating in the vehicle, loud music and because the journey is bouncy’. From this the young girl asked to move to the front, she had told the jury that the vehicle then slowed down doing to 5-10 mph and the chauffeur had a sat nav but didn’t know where he was going, this is when she become worried.  ‘I started to feel uneasy at him keep looking at me, so I looked out the window, he then said something like, from all the girls iv picked up tonight, you’re the most gorgeous wish I could stay with you for a little longer, or something along those lines, it made me feel uncomfortable’. From this he had stopped the limousine within a bus lay-by go out, walked the side, opened the door and tried to kiss her, but she had moved back. He then got back into the car, and reached to touch the girl’s leg. The young girl said ‘there was tinted windows, no one could see in, what happens in a limousine, stays in a limousine’. The overall journey had taken 50 minutes, rather than 12. whether she had intended to move to the front for attention, or whether the chauffeur is fully guilty will be judged by the jury.

REPOSSED LIMOUSINE ON PROM NIGHT

May 7th, 2010

When the big night comes up for any teenager, so many things could go wrong for them, ill fitting tuxes, zits, wilted flowers, even the date running off with someone else, however a group of high school kids in Oklahoma had had their evening spoiled in a way that is all too indicatives of the times which we live in. On their prom night they watched their limousine they had booked being repossessed.

The teenagers and the limousine chauffer had just stepped out of the stretch hummer limousine when someone else had suddenly hopped onboard and started to drive away. ‘Our limousine is getting carjacked!’ one of the teens said as they all watched the stretch limo speed off. According to the owner of the limousine company, the vehicle should not have been repossessed at all. He then claimed that he would have to sort his issue out with the bank, but he then quoted that the bank didn’t pass the information onto the repo man. The owner say he intends to make up for any lose within this incident with a partial refund or free future rental.

This just proves that anyone who dodges the rules, will get caught and executed. With any big day, this is the worst nightmare. This is why with Limo Hire, we make sure that every limousine company that joins our directory is safe, to the best of their ability and most of all legal. Their will be no mistakes when hiring/becoming part of the family with Limo Hire.

CLIENT SELLS STOLEN GOODS

May 7th, 2010

A client who had booked a limousine had been selling stolen goods in Dover, USA. The police had been alerted about the limousine chauffeur after he had left the limousine with various stolen items onboard. Jason Lowell Greenberg was picked up by the police at Dover train station after the tip-off from another chauffer.

The limousine company ‘Eagle Limousines’ who had been provided the chauffeur driven limo quoted that they had received the booking earlier that night. The vehicle was then sent to the location to pick up the clients who proceeded to load stolen items which included a TV, shotguns, and rifles into the limousine. Greenberg was then asked the chauffer to drive him around the area while he attempted to sell his goods, he was taken to the limousine companies base where a second chauffer who agreed to buy the TV. The other few items were then moved onto the other limo, from this Greenberg asked to be driven to the train station. When at the station, Greenberg had left the limousine items onboard the limo, and it was at this point that the chauffeur called the police.

Once at the station, Greenberg left the limo with the items still onboard. It was at this point that the chauffeur called the police. The client was then arrested and the investigation is still ongoing. Earlier reports indicate that the items were probable taken during the two burglaries which had taken place earlier that day.
