The most prolific of Neolithic sites in Orkney is Sara Brae, this ancient village was inhabited over 3000 years ago, and many of the ruins have been excavated and presented to the visitor for easy exploration. Oddly enough the climate in Orkney is somewhat warmer than the rest of Scotland due to its proximity to the Gulf Stream; this makes any visit to Orkney quite pleasant even during the winter.
